Maitá A Tabío is a Puerto Rican American graphic designer/painter, that is inspired by the nature of women, popular Caribbean culture, women's identity in society and modern art. She graduated in 1986, with a BA in Design and a Minor in Advertising; graduating with High Honors from The American University (AU) in Washington D.C. with an Art Grant and scholarships. During her last year at AU, Maitá worked for distinguished Spanish artist/illustrator Salvador Bru at Bru & Associates in Maryland. As a designer she was able to work with Salvador on big institutional accounts like: The National Institute of Health. After returning to her hometown, she worked for 3 years as a graphic designer/illustrator for ID GROUP. There she acquired extensive knowledge in logo, publication, institutional, exhibit and packaging design.

From 1989-1993 Maitá created TabíoGraphica, her Design Studio. She provided full graphic design and advertising services to major media companies and clients: Burson-Marsteller, Lopito Ileana & Howie, Badillo Saatchi & Saatchi, Du Pont Merck Pharmaceuticals, 7Up Bottling Company, Shearson Lehman American Express.
In 1993 she relocated to Florida with her husband and two children. Her career was placed to a stop while raising her children. Today Maitá paints and practices as a real estate agent.
Maitá's style has been influenced by Cuban artist Cundo Bermúdez, Itzchat Tarkay, Andy Wharhol and Peter Max. More important, she was inspired by her late father Architect Fernando Alvarez-Tabío and her grandmother the late Rita Longa, a Cuban monumental sculptress.
